THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: “For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord. “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
During times when the economy is bad, whether it’s the national economy or simply our own, it is so easy to be caught up in thoughts of fancy baubles we cannot purchase, vacations we cannot take, and everything else we are so sure we need but which are out of reach. I have been without a job for a long time now, and I know those feelings, but when I’m focused on Him, I can see that the Lord has shown me how to live without and replaced what I couldn’t get by without sometimes before I knew I needed it. He has even given me love gifts which were simply that, a love gift to show me how present He always is in my life. As Christians, we are not exempt from these times of challenge – look at how many of Paul’s letters were written from prison, but as His sheep we have God’s own plan to carry us through if we but trust in Him and we have His Word to lead us and bless us and which provides rewards far greater than secular society can ever offer to us if we will simply turn to Him in faith and listen and follow Him. He will never let us down. When we fix our eyes on Him and allow Him to fill our hearts with his grace and truth, we can face challenging times with a sense of peace and joy that none but God can give to us. True joy comes from deep inside us and as long as we focus on Him, we will feel His joy regardless of our current circumstances.
PRAYER: Lord, strengthen us in faith and help us to fix our eyes on you alone. Guide us and guard us as we strive to follow your path which leads us to the plan you have for our lives; a plan that will bring us true joy and true wealth far greater than the world can give, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
